August 2025

Happy Summer, everyone. We are in the middle of a heat wave up here in Green Country with temps in the mid-90s for the last several days plus unthinkable heat indexes. As summer turns hot and muggy I try to catch up on my reading of genealogy magazines. Our Tulsa Genealogy Annals have some fascinating articles on Oklahoma people and their stories. Take time to review them on our website.  This link also includes indexes which are searchable such as divorces, marriages, et cetera. These indexes will save you lots of time when you are researching.

On Saturday, July 12th, several TGS members convened at the Hardesty Library for a workshop on AI and Genealogy, speaker, Steve Little (the AI Guru). I was very impressed with Steve and his presentation. Artificial intelligence is a fact of life in the tech fields and we can learn about how to incorporate it into our research skills. I find it useful to help keep me out of all those pesky rabbit-holes as well as keeping me focused on a particular search. We will be learning more about AI as the year progresses, so grab on and fly with us.

Annette will be resuming her Research Desk SIG in August. I believe we are going to try a book review approach, chapter by chapter, in improving our research skills. First on the list, is about using and understanding about state and local censuses. Mark your calendars to join us as we learn to mine each one. Definite dates for beginning this study and sources will be announced. These skills will certainly build your research outcomes.

In September, Tulsa Genealogical Society will be 60 years old! Can you believe it? On September 15th, we will recognize this milestone. Carol EJ is working on the program and seeks your input and your experience of membership. Please sign up on this form “I Can Help” to let her know you are interested.

I have had several of our group who are wanting to “be involved”. Our Board of Directors is always planning our general meetings as well as other learning opportunities. The best way for you to get involved is to join us! Bring your ideas, questions, and suggestions to us. This is your society! We need you!
