History of TGS

Tulsa Genealogical Society was established in 1965 and remains a vibrant society for area family historians and genealogists. We are a 501c(3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization. Our  organization promotes the collection and preservation of family genealogy for historical benefits. Membership year is from July 1 to June 30. TGS has rotating Board of Directors which includes a Member at Large. Listed below are the current 2024 – 2025 officers and chairs.

TGS MISSION STATEMENT

Tulsa Genealogical Society promotes family history research by providing educational and research opportunities plus community services to members and non-members. The Society assists distribution of and publishes genealogical and historical materials.
The purposes of this Society shall be educational; shall bring together interested persons for discussion and interchange of opinions and planning in the field of genealogy; shall study methods of research; shall assist interested persons in genealogical research and compilations; shall issue publications, assist distribution of genealogical material and historical data for the benefit of all interested persons; shall encourage establishment of genealogical departments and libraries; shall encourage the establishment of additional societies within the state; and shall assist donation of genealogical books, magazines, and appropriate papers and records to genealogical libraries.

TGS STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The purposes of this corporation shall be educational, shall bring together interested persons for discussion and interchange of opinions and planning in the field of genealogy, shall study methods of research, shall develop and maintain ancestral charts and records for the benefit of the general public, shall assist interested persons in genealogical research and compilations, shall issue publications, shall collect and preserve genealogical material and historical data for the benefit of all interested persons, shall encourage the establishment of more and better genealogical departments and libraries, shall encourage the establishment of additional societies within the state, and shall acquire genealogical books, magazines, papers and records, and donate them to genealogical libraries.
