An Important Message from Our President
What does the Tulsa Genealogical Society mean to you?
Are these the benefits of membership you desired when you joined us?

Which benefits are you willing to sacrifice?

  • Access to Unique Resources: Membership grants exclusive access to specialized databases, archives, and research tools that can significantly boost one’s genealogical research.
  • Community of Enthusiasts: Being part of a vibrant network of like-minded individuals fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and lifelong friendships with people who share a passion for history and ancestry.
  • Educational Opportunities: Members benefit from workshops, seminars, and lecture sled by experts in genealogy and historical research, helping to expand skills and deepen understanding.
  • Contribution to Historical Preservation: By volunteering or taking on leadership roles, members actively contribute to the preservation and documentation of local and family histories, leaving a legacy for future generations.
  • Networking and Mentorship: The society offers opportunities to connect with seasoned genealogists, historians, and professionals who can offer guidance and mentorship.
  • Recognition and Impact: Involvement can lead to public recognition through contributions to publications, community events, or leadership positions within the organization, allowing members to make a meaningful impact.
  • Personal Enrichment: Beyond the academic and historical aspects, membership is also about personal fulfillment—discovering one’s roots, understanding family traditions, and connecting with cultural heritage.
  • Organizational Growth and Influence: As active members, individuals help shape the direction and initiatives of the society, ensuring its relevance and sustainability in preserving genealogical history.

These points highlight both the practical benefits and the intrinsic rewards of involvement. Membership is both a resource for personal growth and a chance to contribute to a broader community mission.

As we prepare for our leadership election in May, the following vacancies exist.

  • President – Presides over all Society meetings, Board meetings, and Executive Committee meetings. Additionally, the President oversees the Society’s operation sand ensures that duties and initiatives align with our mission.
  • Secretary – Maintains records of all board meetings and public meetings where voting occurs, ensuring proper documentation of Society activities.
  • Treasurer – Manages the Society’s finances, maintains accurate records of receipts and expenditures, and disburses funds for expenses. The Treasurer also presents a financial statement at each monthly board meeting.

Many organizations around the genealogy community are having to either shut down or limit their outreach. Your involvement can make a meaningful difference in the future of Tulsa Genealogical Society.

We encourage you to consider this opportunity to serve and support our shared passion for genealogy. These positions do not take the skills of a rocket scientist – You can do it! What can you contribute to ensure Tulsa Genealogical Society’s leadership in the Genealogy Community.

Best Regards,
Dorothy Becknell
